Connect to a Wi-Fi Network
Your Mac is equipped with an AirPort Card, so you can easily join any Wi-Fi or other wireless network that’s within range. You’ll find all the available networks listed in the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar.

Join a closed network
A closed Wi-Fi network is a network whose name (sometimes known as the network SSID) is hidden. In order to join a closed network, you need to ask the network’s administrator for the name of the network, the type of wireless security, and the password for the network.
If the Wi-Fi menu isn’t in the menu bar
Open AirPort Utility
Join an available network
- Open the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar, and choose the network you want to join. All networks within range are listed.
- If a password is required, enter it.
Join a closed network
A closed Wi-Fi network is a network whose name (sometimes known as the network SSID) is hidden. In order to join a closed network, you need to ask the network’s administrator for the name of the network, the type of wireless security, and the password for the network.
- Open the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar, and choose Join Other Network.
- Enter the network’s name.
- If necessary, choose the type of security, and enter the password.
- Click Join.
If the Wi-Fi menu isn’t in the menu bar
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Network.

- Select the “Show Wi-Fi status in menu bar” checkbox.
Open AirPort Utility
