Open Documents and Downloads from Stacks
A stack is an item in the Dock that gives you fast, direct access to the files on your Mac. A stack can be a folder of documents or applications—anything you need to access frequently. When you click a stack, it springs open in a fan or a grid, depending on the number of items it contains. You can drag items in and out of stacks, just as you do with folders.
The Dock comes with two stacks already in place:
Downloads: Items you download from the Internet or receive as “AirDrops” are stored in this stack.
All My Files: You’ll find all your text documents, images, and other files in this stack.

- To add stacks of your own, drag folders to the Dock. You can create as many stacks as you like. Stacks are located near the right end of the Dock.
- To view a stack as a folder, press the stack’s icon in the Dock and choose “Display as Folder.”
